Police Complaints

Adopt A Cop in Your Community

We ask community activists to Adopt a Cop. That just means picking one or more police officers, perhaps ones you have some kind of personal experience with, and then just commit to monitoring his or her public complaints file. It’s an easy and effective way to help us build up-to-date public profiles for the police officers in your community.

If you have a cop in mind, check our List of Cops to make sure there isn’t already someone monitoring his or her record. If there is, we may be able to put you in touch with them so you can team up.

If you don’t have a specific officer in mind but still want to help, please contact us for suggestions.

Once you’ve chosen a police officer, submit a public records request to get his or her public complaint file to date. Then send it to us for publishing.

Then, all we ask is to check in every six months or so with the records custodian and obtain and send us any additions to the officer’s public complaint file.
